24th March 2023

This is it! 55 hours to go until the kick off for the 2023 Australian Rowing Championships. With it being 11 years since WA last hosted this momentous event, we would be forgiven for being excited.

Fingers are crossed that Mother Nature blesses us with conditions as magnificent as experienced in 2019 for the Australian Masters Rowing Championships. If you were there, you will know what I'm talking about!

This edition of Oar Talk features not only the 2023 ARC, but also the amazing WA rowers who have been selected to represent Australia across 3 individual teams on the international circuit.

If that wasn't enough, we also announce our 2023 Pathway VIII squad.

Grab yourself a strong coffee (or a beverage of choice), kick back & happy reading!

Rowing WA Honours Athletes Selected by RA for the 2023 Australian Rowing Teams!

Last week Rowing Australia announced the squad line up for several national teams to represent Australia internationally in 2023. WA athletes have been honoured with places in all squads this year, some returning champion athletes and others young, rising athletes.

Australia will suit up seven Olympic champions as part of a 66-strong Australian Rowing Team (ART) ready to take on the sport’s elite during the international rowing season, which culminates in the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade in September.

The next generation of Australian rowing stars have been named to take to the water for the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, from July 19-23.

A team of 20 athletes and six coaches were confirmed after intensive trialling at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, where the under 23 athletes shared the water with senior stars competing for their own spots on the national team.

Rowing Australia are delighted to announce those athletes selected to represent Australia for the 2023 Windermere Cup in the USA on Saturday 6 May.

Trinity College win fourth Hamer Cup in a row, claim Challenge Cup

On Saturday 18.03.2023, Trinity College continued their recent dominance of the Head of the River regatta, winning their fourth Hamer Cup in a row and claiming the Challenge Cup at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre.

Trinity director of rowing Phil Jurjevich said the double win had wrapped up a perfect day for the school.

“We’re still a bit numb to be honest. It was a brilliant day, this year has been so beautiful, weather-wise, so it just was a surreal day - I’m still spinning out,” he said.

Our congratulations go out to all the PSA schools who competed in the Head of the River last Saturday. It was a cracker of a day with a turn out crowd of spectators, the largest seen since pre-covid years. It warmed the heart to see crowds line the shore of the lake once again to cheer on the crews.
