FINAL DAY! Sunday, 02.04.2023
Schools / Club Finals & Interstate Regatta!

As predicted, spectator crowds swelled along the banks of Champion Lakes today for the last day of racing at the Australian Rowing Championships. The day's racing was opened with the Club Women's & Men's Double Scull semi finals before launching into the schools racing finals - a huge showcase of school & youth rowing for girls & boys. With more than 1,900 competitor's entered at the ARC, over 1,100 were from schools. There is some major up-and-coming talent out there!

Schoolboy Remy Payne is one such school rower.  Club member at Fremantle Rowing Club & student of Churchlands SHS, under the guidance & skilled coaching of Kevin Neville, Remy today medaled in the Schoolboy's Single Scull final, bringing home a Bronze medal.

Congratulations to Blake Whyatt & Sam Toland (WARC) on winning Gold in the Club Men's Double Scull. The Club events are targeted at athletes who are not high performance athletes & gives them the opportunity to compete in the ARC.

Excitement built as the pointy end of the day approached - the Interstate Regatta.  State crews were poised to battle it out on the water for the honour of holding trophies aloft in success & taking home National titles.

WA's Interstate crews battled valiantly against fellow states.  Congratulations go to Interstate Men's Single Sculls Bronze medalist, Sam Marsh (SRRC) & Interstate Lightweight Women's Quad Scull Bronze medalists - Lara Glendinning (UWABC), Suzannah Gravestock (WARC), Lola Davies (SRRC) & Ruth Morris (WARC).

The closing of the day saw the Interstate Men's & Women's Eights take to the water.  Competition was tight for line honours & our crews fought hard to the end, just missing out on medaling by mere seconds.  There were tears as crews came off the water, but heads were held high, a solid feeling of camaraderie & support for each other in the air.  It was heartwarming to see family & friends with the rowers, showing their love & pride for these amazing crews.

The 2023 Australian Rowing Championships saw a record number of entries for WA with 432 registrations.  We here at Rowing WA can not even begin to express how immensely proud we are of each & every single WA athlete who has competed throughout this week & we thank you for representing our State on a National level.

Last, but certainly not least, we thank our amazing WA coaches.  These hard working individuals work tirelessly to give our rowers top-notch training, guidance & support to help them achieve their very best.
