World Rowing Cup III

The Journey Continues for our Australian Rowing Team.

This weekend, the journey continues for our Australian Rowing Team (ART) - the largest ever to compete for Australia - as they head to Lucerne, Switzerland for World Rowing Cup III with 60 athletes across 18 different crews in 14 events, which includes six Olympic Champions from Tokyo.

For the majority of the Australian Rowing Team, World Rowing Cup III concludes a five-week tour which has seen them race at World Cup II in Poland, Henley Royal Regatta in England and train from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) European Training Centre (ETC) in Italy, picking up 33 medals and six trophies in the process.

The Men’s Eight has the largest number of boats competing in the World Cup event since 2017, with Australia fielding two crews. The Women’s Eight will return in their World Cup II combination. Competition will be tough, as it always is in this boat class, but the intent from our crew is to be standing on the podium come Sunday.

Paul Thompson MBE, High Performance Director spoke about the hotly contested World Cup 3:

“With over 600 athletes represented, it is the most attended World Cup Regatta across nations. The best crews will be there, and it gives our athletes the chance to test their boat speed and gain race experience at the top level.

“This is the last major international racing opportunity before the World Championships in September and marks less than 14 months before Olympic qualification for Paris 2024.”
