RWA Facility Projects Update

Published Fri 08 Apr 2022

Rowing WA's CEO, Daniel Tackenberg recently inspected the project works at both Canning Bridge & Champion Lakes Regatta Centre.
Below is his update on all 3 projects currently underway.

There's been a lot of activity at Canning Bridge & Champion Lakes!

With a lot of activity happening at Canning Bridge and Champion Lakes I thought a quick update was due.

Restaurant Renovation

As expected the builder has hit supply delays and is trying to work toward a completion in August 2022.  The entire function room level has been gutted, the new balcony roof has been erected and they are starting to push the southern wall out to the edge of the balcony.  Internally they are starting to frame up all the walls.  Meetings were held with the builder and plumber this week to finalise the locations of the penetrations through the concrete slab and pipework attached to the ground floor ceiling, to reduce the impact on our current rowing tenants as much as possible.  JTC, MURC and PRC will be moving all boats and oars from the back half of their sheds out on to racks (or other locations) for all of this week while this work is completed.  JTC will be partly rowing out of Aquinas for the week.  Clubs have been very accommodating - thank you!  The builder has hit a challenge related to the soakwells and plumbing in the western extension due to the high ground water.  He is waiting for lab testing results but will have to de-water before completing this work.

Champion Lakes Boat Shed Mezzanine Renovation

The mezzanine Fit-Out is progressing well and should be completed within the next couple of weeks.  Last week the window was cut out and glass installed.  The room has been sealed off from the birds and internal walls all framed and gyprocked.  The project is progressing well.

New Champion Lakes Maintenance Shed

The civil works for the maintenance shed are well underway and due for completion in 3-4 weeks.  This aligns well with the timing on shed fabrication.  There were a few early hurdles related to the water table level, clay soils and the Geotech report but all have been overcome.  The extension of the water, sewer, power and data cables will commence in the next few weeks to be ready for continuation under and through the slab during Stage 2.

Some good progress all round.  After years of planning for all of these projects it is great to finally see some action!
