Presbyterian Ladies College Win IGSSA WA Head of the River!
Presbyterian Ladies College have extended their winning streak by storming home for First VIII line honours at the 2023 IGSSA WA Head of the River. The crew, coached by David Milne, won in a time of 7:22.65. Hot on their heels in second place were St Hilda's, and rounding out the podium was Perth College. This year's field had an opportunity to race at the Australian National Championships when it came to WA in March - this added experience and time in training saw a much tighter race than recent years.
School programs are underpinned by a sense that every rower contributes to the team's success. The First VIII may have stolen the show but PLC are known to be a dominant force in the Perth schoolgirl rowing scene due to the consistent high performance at all levels of their program. Across the season, PLC's results earned them top spot in the Consistency Table, and their performance as a group on the day led them to take home the HOR Points Competition.
St Hilda's, this year's IGSSA WA Host School, look poised to challenge the PLC dynasty next year with a number of outstanding results in the younger divisions at HoR, and all schools were able to enjoy successes across the season and on the day.
Coaches, support staff (special shout-out to IGSSA WA Executive Officer Louise Carson) and family members work tirelessly across the rowing season to ensure that their athletes have every possible opportunity to participate in our wonderful sport and to perform at their best. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the IGSSA WA season and we hope you have some time now to relax and recharge before you go again!
Congratulations to all IGSSA competitors and for those not in year 12, we look forward to seeing you back at the lake next season! For those who are finishing school, there are many exciting avenues to keep rowing outside of school no matter your ambitions. Head to our website to check out your options!
The season is not yet over for some rowers - the Rowing WA All Schools Regatta Series continues into August and concludes with the Act Belong Commit All Schools State Championships on Saturday, 12th August 2023.
