Over the past few years, Rowing WA has deepened its partnership with Healthway, now extending to align with the Act Belong Commit initiative. This collaboration naturally reflects the heightened focus on mental health in the post-COVID era, where mental well-being is a significant public health concern.

Mental illness continues to be a major public health issue in Western Australia with depression currently the largest health problem globally.  Physical inactivity is recognised as an important risk factor for ill health in Western Australia & is a key contributing factor towards increased anxiety & depression.  Rowing WA's partnership with Healthway | Act Belong Commit enables us to offer a range of opportunities to change behaviour to improve & maintain mental health, as well as opportunities to increase physical activity.

Act Belong Commit's key messages will be the main focus throughout the partnership & in everything we do:

  • Being active & having a sense of belonging all contribute to happiness & good mental health & wellbeing;
  • Getting involved in sport & recreation is enjoyable & provides a sense of achievement - it's as simple as ABC, Act Belong Commit;
  • It's easy to get involved, have a go & participate through Rowing WA!  Meet new friends, have fun & learn new skills;
  • Getting involved in community is enjoyable & provides a sense of achievement.
