Rowing WA Logo2019 Canning Bridge Classic Regatta & Rower of the Year Awards!

The 2019 Canning Bridge Classic will be taking place on the afternoon of Saturday, 19th October 2019 followed by the 2019 Rower of the Year Awards. As this is a new social regatta added to the calendar this email is designed to inform you of everything you need to know before entering!

Mixed Gender Format

You spoke and we listened! This regatta will feature two mixed gender events per race category with clubs entering ‘teams of 14’. Teams will include six females and 6 males, plus two coxswains (any gender). For clubs who can’t field a team of 14, it is still possible to enter in to either the coxed eight or coxed quad events (with 9 or 5 team members respectively).

Race Information

Each team will race in one coxed eight event and one coxed quad event over the 500 metre inside Canning Bridge course. Teams will need to think strategically on how they go about this regatta, with a choice of what rower competes in which event. No rower can compete in both events and each crew needs to be split by the gender of the rowers (4 males and 4 females in the coxed eight and 2 males and 2 females in the coxed quad).

Scheduling and Handicapping

The regatta is open to everyone from A Grade rowers, through to Novice rowers. Masters rowers will also have their own race category. The race schedule, including race categories, is subject to change dependant on regatta entries.

All races will be handicapped based on:

  • Average rowing score of each crew; or
  • Average age of the crew (Masters only).

Point System

Points will be allocated for first, second and third for both events with the team accumulating the most points the winner for each race category!

Cost and Logistics

The regatta will be FREE to enter for clubs with no seat fee charged! Rowing WA encourages clubs to work together when it comes to boat sharing to make logistics on the day as simple as possible for everyone to take part.

Regatta Entries

Registration for the regatta is simple! Once you have assembled a team of 12 rowers and 2 coxswains enter as normal through Rowing Manager HERE. This will give you the option of deciding what rowers row in each boat (4X+ or 8+).

Clubs are encouraged to enter as many teams as they would like!

Other Social Opportunities

For those not rowing on the day but still interested in watching the Canning Bridge Classic the Rowing WA bar will be open throughout the regatta. So why not get a few mates together for a drink whilst watching this exciting new regatta format!

Eftpos facilities will be available.

Rower of the Year Awards

The Canning Bridge Classic will run in the afternoon prior to the 2019 Rower of the Year awards. Clubs are encouraged to take part in the regatta and then come up to the Rowing WA function room to enjoy a drink and celebrate a fantastic 2019 regatta season. Entry to the awards evening is free of charge with a choice to pre-purchase a 2-course roast meal and dessert prior to the day for only $30! Meal tickets can be purchased HERE - price of ticket includes a drink on arrival.

Change facilities located at Canning Bridge HQ will be open for all rowers to utilise, otherwise there will be enough time between the end of the regatta and the start of the ROTY awards to go home and freshen up. The bar will remain open throughout the afternoon for those wanting to kill time between the regatta and awards evening.

The 2019 awards have been restructured to reflect a more casual setting. More information can be found HERE.

Attached to the top of this email is a Canning Bridge Classic infographic and ROTY awards night invite to provide you with more details of both of these events. For any further questions please call Alex Blanksby, Event and Operations Coordinator on 9364 3905 or via email at operations@rowingwa.asn.au.

We look forward to an exciting wrap-up to a great season of racing!
