CEO - Daniel Tackenberg
Daniel has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Sport and Exercise Science), an MBA and has completed his AICD Company Directors Course.
He has been working in the sport and recreation industry his whole working life across four different states of Australia in not-for-profit, government and for-profit companies over this time. His diverse knowledge, experience and skillset developed over this period has provided Rowing WA with a great platform for leadership and growth within the sport sector. Daniel commenced with Rowing WA in November 2014.
As CEO, Daniel is responsible for the implementation of the Association’s strategic plan and associated budget. This encompasses all aspects of the sport with much emphasis being placed on growth and development of existing and new programs through the coordination of and collaboration with all rowing stakeholders within the state. He represents West Australian rowing on a variety of national working groups and committees and ensures WA’s interests are considered at the national level.
Daniel manages a small but dedicated team of professional staff who together provide great support to the rowing clubs of Western Australia and drive the ongoing development and evolution of the sport.
General Manager - Operations - Nick Wakeford
Nick, an accomplished and dedicated professional with over 25 years of immersion in the world of rowing, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role of General Manager of Operations at Rowing WA.
Nick's journey in rowing has been a lifelong commitment, starting from his school days in his native South Africa before moving to the UK and then migrating to Australia, where he had the honour of representing Western Australia in the prestigious Kings Cup. As the former captain of the West Australian Rowing Club for a five-year tenure, Nick not only steered the team with leadership but also actively contributed to the club's growth and development, playing an integral role in the formation of the inaugural Rowing WA regattas committee.
In Nick's previous role as a Strategic Alliance Manager, his focus was on fostering connections within the industry. This background has finely tuned his skills in identifying key partners and growth opportunities, establishing and nurturing internal and external relationships, and collaborating seamlessly with cross-functional teams. Nick is excited about leveraging this expertise to drive Rowing WA's success and growth.
Finance and Administration Officer - Leanne Pool
Leanne joins us as our new Finance and Administration Officer. Her background as a qualified accountant, working in school, and being a Swimming mum makes her the perfect person for this role and we are loving having her in the office. Leanne grew up on a farm down South but moved to Perth for Uni, where she has worked in finance for many years. She will be able to help you with all your accounts queries!

Development & Operations Coordinator - Isabelle Day
Izzie started with Rowing WA in February 2023, making the trek across the Nullarbor from Adelaide to join us in the West. She has a rowing background, having been involved as a school and club athlete, Level 2 coach and administrator since being introduced to the sport as a high schooler in 2010. Highlights of her time in the sport have been coaching the SA Pathway Women's Eight, undertaking Lead Coaching roles at Torrens Rowing Club and Wilderness School, and working for Rowing SA.
Her role is to support development projects and the day-to-day operations of Rowing WA. Izzie is passionate about helping members of the community in pursuit of their goals, no matter the size or scope.
